bunk beds

in the past few trips I have set up my 2 hammocks as a vertex style set. I secured each hammock to one tree and the other end to 2 separate trees. Keeping the together but separate. I do this because I don't have a decent tarp yet. My choices are; one that's to small or a Wally blue tarp that's 16x20.

so my question is what are the negatives to hanging 2 hammocks one on top of the other? I would be closer to the ground ( maybe just 6") and my son would be above me. His is a bmbh mine a bias camper. I understand getting in and out would take an effort, but I already don't let him try on his own when we are sleeping. The only other thing I could think of is if his hammock fails he would end up on me.

Well with my daughter I wouldn't put her in any hammock without extra strong and secured netting. The child does somersaults in her sleep.

I have seen pictures of this done before, so it is possible.

My biggest concern would be a failure of bladder control during the night. Just remember if you start dreaming of water falls, its too late.

landing on you is probably a positive, instead of the ground.

This has been done before, the only thing with being lower is that you might have to deal with some splash from rain on the ground, or be a bit low and cop* some wind blown rain.

ooh- I just re-read and saw that your son has a bridge hammock. Be careful about him being higher in a steeper set up and the edges of his poles poking the tarp.

*is this an Australianism? what I mean is that you get hit.

that is why I want him close so I can check on him. My son is all over the place. the bladder thing is a major concern he can have issues in that department.

if I were to use a traditional tarp you would be right about the splash, but as I said I use a big blue Wally tarp its 16x20. Should not have issues in that area. I hope to someday make a specialized tarp for the other format( using the same tree for one end and to close but separate tree for the other). As of now that's not an option.

I do it all the time for the kiddos, this past weekend in fact. I see no reason it wouldn't fly for grown ups. Just takes a little creative geometry.

You are saying you put 2 kids, one on top of the other, but not an adult with a child. I will fiddle with my configurations.
