Pecan trees can predict the new grow season. After the last frost they bud and you know it's time to plant. So what does it mean when they drop pecans 2 months early. I think the trees are predicting a cold one this year. Time will tell.

I hope that is what that means, and I hope they are right. But I am a little concerned when I see these real early cold snaps breaking records, because I have been faked out by that a few times over the years.

I'm trying to remember how it started last year. I'm thinking the backpack in the Sipsey Wilderness - 1st weekend in Oct. - was about 38F, pretty much about like this time. Then after that came a winter that was a summer.

Yeah you can't judge the future by yesterday... Yesterday's high/low 62/52 tomorrow is going to be 72/85... Tomorrow is not very wintry but Saturday Sunday was very wintry...

Supposedly Texas is in for a cold and wet winter... Doesn't bother me any...

I'd be happy with a good hard cold winter this year, if nothing to knock down some of the bugs, ticks were brutal this year. Of course being able to use all of my awesome snow gear would be nice as well.

I see a huge difference in the amount an size of Acorns in the woods from last year compared to this year. Last year they were scarce but this year they are all over the place. Some if them are huge, just a bit smaller than a quarter.

We just noticed this last night. We were on our way to a restaurant when Genuine Draft pointed out some acorns that were in the median. They were huge! I don't recall ever seeing acorns that big. Bout the size of walnuts.
