Very cool. It would work to hold the Vertex. Options, so many options.

WOW. That thing is huge. How long would you say it takes to set the stand up?

Not a very long time - perhaps 10-15 minutes if I'm not in a hurry. Honestly, I spent more time playing around with pitching the tarp than anything else. I've still gotta figure out exactly how I want to do the tarp in future setups.

The only thing I really want to do to improve this at this point, is to figure out a better tarp solution.

Since I'm already hauling a bunch of heavy poles, a few tent poles are nothing at this point - any ideas?

    Define the "problem."

Well, if you look at the first two pictures, with the tarp on, the tarp is wrapped over the cross poles, meaning that it's impossible to get anything resembling a taut pitch. It's very susceptible to wind, and could have issues with water pooling.

One possibility would be to suspend from the apex of the tall triangle, but then the tarp isn't long enough to reach close to the ground and block wind-blown rain, so I am not really interested in that approach.

More generally, I am looking for clever ideas about how to adapt a tarp to this platform - ideally using the existing 16x16 kelty that I already own, and without extensive modifications to the tarp itself.

How far apart are the two end supports in the photos?

The ridge poles are 16 feet long each, so with the space for the hardware to hang them and room to attach the hammocks, it ends up putting the cross poles at around 15ish feet apart. You lose around 6 inches on each side.

Since they are at an angle, the apex of the large triangles end up being further apart - somewhere just slightly over 16 feet.

Congrats, Mustardman, on a job very well done. The thought struck me about perhaps using some form of ties out on the tarp that would connect with guylines to the tops of the triangles on each end. It might get enough tension to keep the tarp taut without any real increase in equipment. Just a thought.
I love the stand. I've been pondering other stand ideas for two since seeing David's tensegrity stand a while back. This looks like a great solution.
