    Back when I was a kid...

    We used to tell the weather by hangin' a rusty ol' length of 3/4" anchor chain from the eaves by the front porch. On most days with a light but steady breeze, that chain would stick out straight. But when those links started snappin' off in the wind you knew there was some bad weather movin' in.
