True. Last year I kept my food in a vehicle. One night I crawled out of the hammock to go take care of business, to find three coyotes in the middle of the road! I almost took care of business in my britches!

I remember hearing those coyotes all night and they kept many of us awake. So maybe earplugs might be a good idea too!

At last years' Florida Hang, I arrived after dark driving in off of HWY19.
Coming down the long clay-dirt road toward Buck Lake I naturally put ON my bright lights to see better. Just before the turn to Buck Lake, I watched a Mama Bear & two cubs scurrying off the road.
Very cool Bear sighting! Remember it is a WMA. Plenty of wildlife.

Like last year I plan to park the jeep near the common area so that food left out can be locked away each evening.

See, that's exactly why I don't leave the hammock at night.

So, this is not your typical State Park with camp pads and specific, numbered, lots for camping? More WMA than campsite? I guess having a backpack to haul gear would be in order? I would have my sea kayak. Can I paddle to a site or is the lake too small for that?
Buck Lake is something between a lake and a pond. (I guess "Buck Pond" didn't seem as appealing.) It's flat & round & <1/4 mile across.
BUT... let not your heart be troubled. There are several flat river trips being planned that go through some pretty cool areas. Most any style of yak should suffice.

I've never had a problem with any critter coming around my rig at night, since I've been putting peanut butter around Running Feather's hammock!

Yea, I was looking at the "lake" on the map. I think two strokes in my Gulfstream and I would be on the other bank...in the trees! Are the rivers up? I have a whole fleet of sea kayaks to choose from, fiberglass and rotomold, but the main squeeze is my fiberglass Gulfstream and it's allergic to rocks. Any shoals or WW runs on the river or is it wide open?

Anyone up for a trip to the coast for some open water paddling?

I also noticed on the State Parks site, there is a outdoor shooting range in Ocala. Anyone know if it's close to Buck Lake? I may tiptoe over and get some practice in.

Also, what's the deal on the Head? "Vaulted toilets"? Is this like a toilet that you have to do the high jump to get to? Should I bring my own privy or is that allowed on park property?
