Adding more weight will depend on what you are currently using. If you are using a sleeping bag now for instance, just about every top quilt you look at will save you weight and bulk.

I have a 40* top quilt that weighs 10 oz. and a 25* quilt that weighs 18 oz.
Both quilts are wearable with a neck closure and are 78"x40".

When looking at either buying or making your own TQ, a few things to consider to help with weight are what kind of fabric are you wanting it to be made out of, what fill power down will be used (if you'll be using down), and what construction methods and features will be used and included. My DIY TQ for 40F weighs around 10oz and uses M50 fabric sewn through construction and 850 fill down. My curent 3 season TQ is by HammockGear uses 900 fill down, M90 fabric, is 8 inches shorter than what they normally make with a weight around 21oz. Best of luck finding what you want. I hope I helped and did not just make things more complicated.
My summer one is 21 oz. I don't have a cold weather one yet... Cold weather sleeping bag is 59 oz.
My 3 season bag weighs 20oz. That seems to be right around the average weight.
The "normal" weight for a 3 season (i.e. 20*) is gonna be around 20-22oz. Jacks R Better seems to make the lightest ones. But if you want the lightest you'll hafta go custom or DIY.
I should be receiving a custom TQ today from Hammock Gear expected to weigh about 16oz, hopefully less. It's made with 10d, cuben baffles and 900fp down. Could have been less if I'd had it made shorter but I like to be able to pull it up over my head.

Thanks to everyone for your input. The reason i was asking is cuz i was looking to get a mummy bag to use as a TQ and i wanted to know what weight range to shoot for, as im friggen broke and can't afford a good TQ. So i guess my hikeing/camping season will end early this year
