    Tarp Question from New Guy

New to this site and to hammocks, but not new to outdoors. I've had a few expeditions with my Eno Double Nest. I'm buying a single nest for my 12 year old Boy Scout who is also an experienced outdoorsmen but new to hammocks. Please forgive me if this is a dumb question but would this make a good tarp:

    http://www.agriculturesolutions.com/...per-sq.ft.html

I'm thinking 12' by 12'. We are outdoors all year long (Michigan) and camp rustic (we normally forgo campgrounds).

    Thank you.

Search the forums here for member WV's cuben manifesto. (I think that's what it was called. He did some experimenting with 6 mil plastic.

its only 6 mil and the 4 years is not folding and unfolding. might consider a blue poly tarp from a local hardware or garden supply.
if you are backpacking i would look at nylon.

I've seen people make tarps out of funny things before but never this stuff! I would imagine it would work and at 10 cents per sq ft. I'd say go for it and let us know I wonder how heavy it is!

6 mil weighs about .88 lb per 100 sq.ft. (using weight for construction grade)
that would put you at about 20.5 oz. for 12-12 not counting edging and tie-out reinforcement. the stuff i've used (for vapor-barrier under concrete) does not like the cold.
