Sorry, brother. I guess not every outing can be a home run. A bad day out in the woods is better than a good day most anywhere else! Hey, I fall down every time I'm out in the woods. Something is always hurting on me too. The heating pad is your friend. Epsom salt soaks do well too if it's a muscular issue.

Hope your dog's okay and that your leg gets to feeling better.

    Chin up! You're with friends.

I seem to get lost just about every time I go out. So, remember, its not just you.
A long hot bath for the aches and pains.
A tall cold lemonade often makes me feel better, too. No liquor, it only brings me down further.
No TV, it, too, brings me down.
Then get busy with editing the video. Maybe make a stove or some other DIY project.
The point is to stay busy. I find that sitting around also brings me down.

I hope you feel better soon. Then plan another trip.
The road to success is always under construction.

I know how you feel. I live with consistent feet pain. Really puts a damper on my hiking. Sometime pain travels up to my knees. I remember one time last year where I really thought I might not be able to hike out because of the knee pain I was having.

I preload my hikes by taking some ibuprofen. Seems to help a lot. Resting frequently and rubbing the joint seems to help me. It is sure discouraging to have the desire to do the miles but not be able to because of pain. A lot of my trips these days are bike packing which I find less painful for me. I still get to the do miles but I am limited by where I can ride.

Take it slow and get back into it. maybe get your pain evaluated to see if there is anything else that can be done for you.

    Good luck,

    S

I can't wait to hear this one....it looked like a AA pack hooked to a cigarette lighter inside a band aid tin?

Sorry about the trip not working according to plans, but it happens. At least you were in the woods and hanging! My trip for this weekend got completely cancelled! Oh well, try again soon, and so can you!

And just to make your next experience more rewarding, if you have not already gone studied such as this, you might enjoy:
    http://www.amazon.com/Expert-Map-Com.../dp/0470407654

Get a topo map for your neighborhood or a nearby park, an orienteering compass and do the exercises/games in this book until 2nd nature, and the type of experiences like you mentioned will drop by a factor of 10 or more. You can become totally proficient in a safe practice area, and what you learn about reading the topo and using the compass with the map will immediately be of MUCH use in the woods. And if you are in a mountainous or very hilly area, an altimeter can be a HUGE help along with the map and compass.

I highly recommend being very proficient and confident with the above first. But once you are, a properly functioning GPS can make finding out where you are and which way to go absolute piece of cake. But like a compass, it's best to practice a lot with it and become very proficient with it.

Then you can go back and march straight to that hidden lake and back again. And I bet you will find that quite the rush added to an already enjoyable day in the woods!

Sometimes you get lost and find something new. Sometimes you just get lost.

Shug's last video showed a little of what you experienced.

Top that off with seasonal depression responsibilities.

Rest, Ibuprofen for the leg, take care of your dog, tomorrow IS another day.
