Hey everyone. Just wanted to show a few pictures of a regular ole' Etowah 8x10 Silnylon flat tarp that I modified with a panel pull on each side. It is currently covering a Warbonnet Blackbird without any problems at all.
I'm a total beginner at using a sewing machine so I didn't want to show any close-ups of the needle work.
As you can see there is plenty of coverage and with the panel pulls there is plenty of space on the inside to get in and out of the hammock without touching the tarp. The only downside would be the head space for taller people. I'm short so ducking below the tarp to get in or out isn't a big deal. In warm weather I intend to hang the tarp much higher.
The purpose of this build was to reduce the overall weight that I have been carrying with the Superfly and still have full coverage with doors without having to jump onto the Cuben train.
The total weight with CRL, STL guy lines, dutch hooks, prussiks, figure nine, shockcord, mitten clips and 8 Ti stakes (only 6 are required), snake skins and stuff sack is barely over 18 oz's. Heavy by cuben standards but light compared to the Superfly. The Superfly starts out at 18 oz's completely naked. I still love the Superfly for the massive area that it provides but I'm liking this one a whole lot.
