Hey Rev, I was thinking of doing something similar except doing a half shock cord, half accessory cord. But I have to make the DIY KAQ first. LOL. I'm eager to see how your experiment turns out.

I have a KAQ Prototype. The shock cord as you say tended to sag, sometimes allowing my quilt to sag as much as 3 to 4". SO, I replaced about 1/2 of each of the shock cords with nylon cord (left over when I canabalized my Bayer hammock), it still has some give, but dosn't sag. Granted, my UQ & hammock gets used 2 of every 3 nights; so probably that's more use than designed for, but all cords are needing replacement now & likley I'll use a heavier shock cord & less nylon cord, but I'll use the nylon cord anyway.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
