We are hitting the trail Thursday morning and returning Saturday afternoon. The hike is about 17 miles should will be moderate in difficulty (whatever that means)! I'm not sure about the use of hammocks there, but I'm taking mine!!! If anyone would like to come along, (there will be three or four in our group), you would be welcome!

Does anyone know anything about the Little River Overnight Loop in GSMNP?
We are now looking at that loop.
I'm not familar with the "LR overrnight loop", but here's info on the Little River Trail. Start at the Elkmont Campground at 2200' and continue 6.2 miles to 3400' to campsite # 30 with three river crossings near the end. Spamburglar and I did this overnighter last year with a few extra trails thrown in. Plenty of water at # 30 with places to hang. Campsite # 24 is at 4.4 miles from Elkmont Campground as well. Pick up the "little brown book" Hiking Trails of the Smokies for details on all the trails.
We are planning on Leaving Elkmont and camping the first night @ Campsite # 30. Then @ # 21 on the second night. The info that I have so far is that #21 is in a boulder field and that it is little used. Hopefully there will good hanging spots. I read that there are a few level spots for tents.
This will be my third outing with the NX-250, so I am looking forward to seeing how it performs in cooler temps and especially since I have figured out the dreaded "learning curve" at least a little.
You need to show off that NX-250 at the Big South Fork hang in November.
I have seen the posts about that... I'll try to make it. What route are you guys taking?

CS 21 has been moved down from Sugarland Mountain Trail to the Huskey Gap Trail. It's a new site with plenty of places to hang. It's just off of Little River trail close to the bridge. It was closed earlier in the season for bear activity, although it is currently opened. There is a bear activity warning for CS 24 at the moment although it is still open for use. If you wanted you could head up Rough Creek Trail to Sugarland Mountain Trail and then come down Huskey Gap to add a nice loop. Hope its a great trip for you all. Enjoy and let us know how it goes.
