Too many good choices. I like the BlackBird
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
i will look at that right now
not sure what is easily avaliable in newzeland, but the eno double nest is a nice hammock that you might be able to pick up localy without paying international shipping costs
wow!!! buddy they are expensive by the time i convert nz to us dollars and pay $25 for a banknote man i even have to do that for a thing that cost $2 . so i think i may have to try and make one
where do ya get the eno from omgak
You have spotlight in NZ (a big fabric store). I made a hammock from ripstop nylon from there - used 3 metres at about 9$ a metre.
Webbing: maybe tie down straps (lose the cinch, hooks etc)

You can also order all you need for a DIY from the Web, but yeah, shipping.
Your next question might be about tarps... this is an aussie website, so shipping would probably be cheaper

my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)
(see my profile for detailed weights)
gram counter, not gram weenie!
What titanium said.. check your fabric stores for Ripstop Nylon. 70 Denier (if I remember) is the same as 1.9oz fabric, which will hold 120+kg ...
I'd follow these directions:

The sides are a little floppy, so this is a great solution:

but make the hammock 10'6" (um... 3.2m)... or even 11' long( uh... 3.3m) (if you're over 2m tall...)
If you want to use a pad, I would find some 30d fabric and make a double layer... http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/diy-guides/hammock/
What do you weigh, and how tall are you?
BTW: If you have a sewing machine, and don't know how to use it, RamblinRev's videos have gotten many a newbie (like me) going:

Hope this helps,

Kiwi, I think I would try the DIY route as well. Fabric is cheaper and more readily available than shipping costs. It's not that difficult and you could be hanging long before packages arrive from overseas. Let us know how it works out.
yup will do guys and thank you so much for all your help and info. jeff (kiwi)
