What kind of winter this year?

Well, 2 and 3 years ago, winter was pretty winter like even down here in north MS. Either lots of snow or lots of cold ( by our standards ). Then, last year seemed like Fall at best all "winter" long, sometimes more like real early fall!

But, I was in Branson, MO yesterday and it was quite cold. And I noticed that it was 8*F at Cold Springs, WY!

Wow, single digits 1st week of October. But I have learned you can not make an accurate judgement based on how it starts. But, if I was up there with my hammock, I sure would want some good insulation under me!

Last winter was pretty mild here in MI. I'm hoping that this coming winter is more normal. I picked up some snowshoes last year and never really had a chance to put them to use!

Most of the area is in prime fall color right now. It seems a bit earlier than normal. Trees seem to be dropping their color quickly - I think that is due to the dry summer we've had. It's getting colder every week, so hopefully the lake effect snow will be here soon

Up here in Minnesota we need moisture, lots and lots of moisture. I hope it is in the form of snow. If the el niño lasts through the winter we will have a mild one.

Pretty normal last winter, looks like it could be a bit dry this year , but who knows. I like a couple of feet of snow on the ground for insulating ground water but other than that i would just like it cold enough for good driving.

I'd really like a repeat of last winter here in New Hampshire. We had a big drop of snow on Halloween which lasted a few days. After that, we only had a few small snow falls at lower elevations. I didn't need snowshoes at all. I want to do a lot of low-elevation stomping around and several multi-day adventures, I do not want to deal with deep snow.

we had our Colorado "Fall" hang last weekend, and the low temperature dipped to about 12 degrees F. At last year's "Winter" hang, it was more like 20. It looks like we might be in for a real winter after all.

Then again, the high in Denver today was something like 74, so maybe not...

Colorado weather is kind of wacky.
