No, you need the amsteel. Paracord won't work at all and in fact would be dangerous.
You can also buy whoopie slings from lots of the vendors around. whoopieslings.com, arrowhead equipment, etc.
And the search function might help you out a bit. 3rd link from the right next to 'quick links' and 'log out'

gram counter, not gram weenie!
Paracord is going to stretch and has no where near the strength of Amsteel. Also Amsteel is a hollow "constrictable" cord which can be fed back through itself to make whoopies, on Paracord only the outer "cord" is hollow and not constrictable and has only 200# breaking strength. Check with marine shops to see if there is any available in your area. If you can't find it, we do carry it along with some of the other vendors here on HF.
Here's a link. Redden gives a 5% discount to members, the code is "Hammock forum" without the quote marks.
Most people use 7/64" diameter.

Amsteel: amazing. And not terribly expensive. Can order from reddenmarine.com and use, I think, "hammockforum" as a discount code for five or ten percent off. Buy at least twice what you need 'cause once you see it you're gonna want more. I got 1/8 inch on my second order because it was easier for my newbie DIY whoopie slinging.

Some people use a knotted paracord suspension system, which is called 550 cord because of its rated load and the polyester variety does not stretch so much.
But Amsteel is amazing. It's relatively inexpensive, stronger than steel cable, and fun to use.

Parroting the rest, Amsteel is para-cord's really buff, much bigger brother. The 1/8th is about the same size and weight but has a load bearing rating in excess of 2000 lbs. So, Amsteel for suspension and para-cord for the rest.
Just my $0.02
If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.
since you live out of the us and north america you may want to look at a marine supply its a synthetic line used for many things. its typically silver gray but comes in many colors.
To add to what everyone else has said, it is "Amsteel Blue" that we normally use. Amsteel is an earlier product and has a lower breaking strength.
thank you for your help guys as i was saying in another thread for me to buy anything from the USA would cost me an arm and a leg say if the whoopei slings are $20 buy the time i changed nz to usd lets see say $20 thats about $30 something plus exchange rate of$10 plus bank note fee $25 thats about $50 for a bit if 6 ft cord wwwwooooooo to me that stuff would have to be made of gold so i have to find another way of doing it. thanks jeff(kiwi)
