    Mummy Bag

I picked up a mummy bag for the right price, but I was wondering if anybody has converted one to the use of a top quilt? Built in footbox should make it simple, but I'm wondering what (if anything) to do at the top with the hood area.

Thanks. I google searched but it didn't turn that up. It's generally better than the search function built into the forum.

I converted my mummy last year.
    Cut the zipper out.
    Cut the hood off.
just sewed the cut off area around the hood.

    works totally awesome!!

It bears mention that this is a GI mummy bag...tough stuff. Should it make a difference, or can I apply the same principals?

The only difficulty is some sewing machines don't sew bags well due to the thickness...

That's a heavy bag, part of the 3 piece sleep system. I have one at home, it makes my 20* synthetic feel like it's an ultra light.

I lopped the hood off of it, left the shoulder area alone to help it snug up to me comfortably, and double stitched across where I'd cut the hood off...couldn't get a good hem on it, so it just has to be ugly.

Ugly doesn't matter. Only function matters.
