Got my first hammock, what kind of lines?

So I got my first hammock for Father's Day. Nothing special, just a $20 Walmart special. It's a decent hammock, but the lines that it came with suck! The knots that were on there slipped out when my wife laid in it after I had been in it a couple hours ( good thing it was only inches off the ground). So I going to make some tree straps and I want to make whoopsie slings and a ridge line. How much a steel should I get and what diameter would you guys suggest? Also, will upgrading to the Amstel over the cheap short pieces of nylon increase the weight limit of the parachute hammock? It doesn't appear to by Ripstop nylon, just standard nylon fabric. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

7/64's amsteel seems to be more than enough for many if not most. It won't increase the weight limit of the hammock (unless the limit was based on the crappy suspension and not the fabric). I tend to use about 12 feet per 6 foot whoopie.

tree straps: ratchet straps, or you can buy online, or you can get webbing at walmart.

You might find that the hammock might be improved by removing the knotted threads, sewing a hem, and making it a channel hammock.
