    Wow, such a "mist"ery
the tarp being saturated shouldn't have anything to do with misting, a fabric that mists will do so immediately under a showerhead and this is because the fabric/coating doesn't have a high enough degree of water resistance (measured in mm). wether your tarp is saturated or not should have no effect on this, and your tarp should be pretty saturated on the outside after only a few minutes of rain as that's what happens to sil tarps, our silnylon won't mist through but it still wets out on the outside after a few mins of steady rain and that is normal for sil fabric.

lots of different types of silnylon out there, some are partly PU and not 100% sil. and among the 100% sil there's variation as well. i've seen some varieties where the coating was not as durable as others in durability tests i've done and those versions did lose water resistence after some abusive testing (rubbing the fabric together vigorusly for many minutes to simulate wear). some silnylon seems to be just as waterproof as when new after a test like this while with some varieties the coating seems to rub off to a degree making them less resistent after wear.

Very interesting reading warbonnetguy. I did not know this, always thought silnylon was silnylon and all the same. You ever considered making a cuben tarp?

all silnylon is definately not created equal.

considered it, but working on other things at the moment. the extremely high price keeps me away as well

    Considered what?

I sent my tarp to my grammie to have her sew on velcro. Will have to wait and see, my problem may well be condensation. So if I perform a test and no mist then is it safe to say it was condensation?

Either way, you stuff may get wet. Which is exactly why I have never owned any down sleep system here in the PNW.

Hammock Gear makes a great cuben tarp, as well as Zpacks. There the two Im familiar with. There are many others that make cuben tarps. But those two ive mentioned appear to be the most popular on the forums here.
