I made a 12' long 9' wide diamond tarp by using spray glue to attach .7 mil plastic sheet to a space blanket. The plastic stops the mylar from tearing and the mylar stops the plastic from stretching. Can't remember the exact weight but it was around 8-10 oz for the whole thing. Only concern I have is the tie outs ripping out. I used duct tape on each side as something for the tie outs to attach to but its really light weight materials and I'm sure if it fails that is where it will be. Anyways whole thing cost like 10 maybe 15 dollars and while you can get lighter its a cheap reasonable way to try the space blanket idea. Though I haven't noticed a significant difference using a space blanket.
