    1.4oz ripstop weight limit

I am looking at 1.4 oz ripstop since I'm a gram weinie. I am 230 lb and wanted to know if anyone has hade the experience of using that material for a DIY gather end hammock and has actually used it for some time? I know what warbonnet recommends and I spoke with Scott over at diygearsupply. I made a 1.1 and I don't have a problem with that stretch but its not safe. I made a 1.9 but just too heavy. Any suggestion on ripstop material size that's smaller than 1.9. and where can i get it. Thanks folks as always!!!!

1.4 would be the way to go then. Wilderness Logics makes their single layer Snipe out of 1.4 and i think they rate it to 250# may want to double check on their website.
I am currently making myself a hammock out of 1.4 but I only weigh 180#

I was going to use 1 layers of 1.4oz since I'm heavier (240lb) but decided to go with one layer. I only just made the hammock though so can't really tell you how durable this material is for us bigger guys.

My first test hang, I did notice some stretch but I don't know if it was all in the fabric or partially in the webbing suspension system.

I'm down at 180 but have used that 1.4 for years and it's great. Many guys heavier than you have used it. I love the weight and feel of it but I can't really speak to durability for your weight class...

    210lbs, single 1.1...

    No issues 10+ hangs...

Now I DID take a 3" wide unhemmed piece of fabric and rigged it up... vertically, it supported my weight, but boy did it stretch!

Fabric is stronger than we give it credit for!

Thanks for feedback. Wilderness logics rate their 1.5 ripstop hammock at 225.

So, I get the whole weight rating thing, but what is calendared vs pure finish, soft vs hard hand and which is best for a hammock?

At first glance it would appear that soft would equal comfy.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, are any of the nylons going to be as 'soft' as the parachute material?
