Which Tarp for me

Hi All,

Im looking for some guidance and recommendations from you more experienced members.

I have a JRB bridge hammock, whoopie sling setup, and currently use a DD 3x4 square tarp which does a fine job.
But, this is no means a light setup, im looking at purchasing a lighter weight tarp in a hex format.
A few factors are size, weight and price.

size: whats the smallest size i can get away with, keeping in mind that JRB bridge are rather long, and in the uk there is always lots of rain!
Weight: i'd love to get a cuben, but this conflicts with my budget, so its not an option, what other fabrics are strong durable and light in the pack?
Price: again on a rather tight budget so price needs to be affordable.

Cheers Shug, Yeah UK here, the SuperFly was the first initial thoughts but Mat current has no stock at the moment.

Plus the price was a little more than i was looking to spend.

Experiment with a no sew DIY using a sheet of polycro (window winterizor) or ldpe painter drop cloth reinforced on stress lines with transparent duct tape or strapping tape. Only USD 10 per tarp. Look at this for example:

funily enough i came accross that YT vid when looking at some reviews and i have some polycro from a groundsheet project i havnt started yet.....

only problem i see if durability, as the weather is far from good in the uk

Polycro with stress line reinforcement would be good in wind provided it is staked properly so it doesn't flap. The only potential problem I can see is possible low puncture resistance, particularly compared with silnylon. But $10 vs $100-150. IMO, well worth experimenting and prototyping. Do not overlook that Polycro tarps are very light.

Like this you mean?
It's "only" 106" long.
I know for sure that it's too short for a DD hammock, so probably it's too short for a jrb bridge as well.
Other than that, despite being a bit heavy for it's size, it's a great basha for ground dwelling
