I have a solution for you. On the last day as your packing up, let everyone take a turn in your hammock, with all bedding removed. Then when you get home, pull the suspension and toss in the wash.

I look at it as kind of like underwear. Not much for swapping out try-ons.
Except for maybe that girl from Madison...but I digress.

hammock etiquette: (now you've brought it up, let's lay out some other etiquette) These aren't rules (except for the first one, I think) and are what nice people do for other people.
always use tree straps when in public, always have a tree-saver strategy.
if at a place where many hammockers are, and you are a more than one person group (say, a family) try and hang close together to save trees for others. Maybe bunk up, try the three tree combo, or just close by. That way others won't feel like they are setting up in the middle of your 'camp'.
If you know there aren't going to be a lot of trees and you are car camping and you have one, bring a stand.
It's OK not to share your hammock (to do test runs) but it is a nice thing to do, if you choose to.
I think it's ok if people want to try other's hammocks without reciprocating (we don't go and lay in tenter's tents if they try our hammocks.)
Etiquette for hammock try-ers: be clean (or as clean as possible when hiking- this is someone's bed) no sharps, no shoes, little/no swings. Spend some time there to try it out, but don't be the try-er that has to be dumped out because you've gone to sleep and have begun to snore, especially when there are others waiting to try, or the hammock's owner wanting to sit down.
Always be considerate of the law enforcement- be respectful when explaining why you want to tie to trees.
Pick up your trash/rubbish/garbage/refuse - especially important if you're hanging a ways a way from the established tenting spots (and any infrastructure)
Our hammocking community has evolved into a wonderful giving sort of place. (Such as lending gear at hangs) Don't take advantage of that, but contribute if you can. Be respectful of borrowed gear.
Take a deep breath, enjoy, smile. Hammockers try and not be cranky.
Thoughts, everyone?

Well said TH. I agree with all above rules. Way to "lay down the law"...

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
I gave a hammock camping class to the boy scouts and let them try out the hamocks I brought. I ended up with a small stressed area on one of my DIY hammocks. (My favorite) I am more careful about who I let try out my hammocks now. No shoes or sharp objects. (hope you don't mind if I pat you down. Just kidding.. )

Thanks for the education. I'm going to my first group hang in a couple of weeks, and I don't want to step on any toes.

It's your hammock, do what you want with it. There's nothing wrong with that.
Anyone can try my hammocks, after a reminder to empty pockets of sharp objects and shoes. I know that most hammocks cannot be tried in a store and the only way to "shop" hammocks is to try someone else's. But, that's just my personal take on it.
