Great pics and very nice scenary. One of these days I really need to start hiking other countries.

Can you post close ups of what you used? Can you also post these in use? Also links to the equipment used would be really helpful.

This would not be something that I would use a lot. But the trips I would use it on would make them well worth it.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I have 3 larger ones size 9, 8 and 7. Each is attached to some dynema cord and i would estimate the 9 as being 4x2/2.5x2.5 and adequate for most situations with the others decreasing from there! Weight 62g, 50g and 40 so not too heavy really if they enable you to be able to hang above the timber line!!

    Thanks.

I'll be the first one to say I know anything about climbing gear (learning that is next year's goal if I move to Denver). Are those used by wedging them in a crack in a rock? If so then wouldn't a rock in the end of my strap do the same thing? A lower rating and not something I would trust stopping a big fall to, but might work for the one or 2 times I would use it.

The DIY'er in me can't help myself.

i'd be careful w/ that. there's a lot of rock types & most will crack or crumble at some point under pressure.
maybe a some what larger rock in a some what larger crack???
    or maybe a small log???
I too will something make and joy in it's making

An alternative to a rock would be to carry a few large automotive nuts and use these? I only carry the climbing nuts when i head for an area that has little or no trees to hang from. The proper nuts are slightly curved on the back and fit extremely securely into cracks in the rock.

I have used an inpromptu "nut" to hang in the back of my van using an old socket from a socket wrench set wedged into a slot between the roof and the bulkhead.

Getting My Rocks Off (or, Hacking at My Nuts)
Went off earlier in the week recce'ing for hang spots on Dartmoor, in preparation for the Trek-Lite Spring Meet next weekend.
Focussed my mind on the need for alternative anchors.
Wasn't feeling the love for the weight of the stuff I could find (I reckon the rest of my stuff is on my Bro's rack)

Loosing the cord was easy on the bigger stuff, and they are no problem to thread onto a dogbone as and when,

So, then it was the turn of the wires,

Replaced with 2.5mm UHMWPE single braid line,

halved the weight. Makes the smaller nuts a bit harder to set, but I reckon I'll mange with the help of a tentpeg.

Gadget: those hex nuts are the king for hammocking as you can rethread the hammock suspension through the holes in different ways for different gaps, I usually just take two with me as a just incase measure, i found them harder to set than a tricam but pretty much as useful for various sized gaps and loads lighter
Success doesn't come to you, you go to it.
