    Dog Shelter?

Not wanting to reinvent the wheel (unless I have too) I thought I would ask...

Anyone know of an ultra light weight DIY shelter design for a medium to large dog I can string up under my HH. I hike with my lab and he really doesn't get comfortable just curling up under my hammock at night; he seems to stay alert and on guard most of the night. I am thinking if I provide him with some shelter the (hopefully) increased sense of security will allow him to rest better. Thoughts?

I have a lab too and have been wanting to find a good solution. Consider me interested too!

Make it four (or five?)...I have a lab and a lab-Aussie cattle dog mix...the latter is a real guard dog too!

    Thanks!

I use an older REI cyrysalis solo for my 72 lb mix mutt...she has a happy place and I have protection for my gear!! It is really low to the ground so it fits slightly to the side of the hammock and fully under the tarp...wally world blue pad under her and she is a happy girl.

my boyfriend and I were thinking something along these lines for the Rotti. Haven't tried it yet but it seems like a not bad idea

Wait.... Isn't that what they're supposed to do?

I have an REI dog tent we got for the dog but he would never sleep in it. Besides it was too heavy to pack around. He'd rather scout around for his own spot. In winter I bring a large tarp, pull it close to the ground and he'll stay in there with me only if it's well below freezing.

Do you use hiking poles? For a cheap test you could try throwing together a simple tarp tent out of tyvek, have a ground sheet and a blue pad like dink712. Wont cost much as a test and if you're not picky on looks it may just do the trick.

When we had to go out of town for a funeral, we had to get two similar to these for our 10 little ones while alone in the hotel room. I'm not sure what type or how secure you want him to feel, but these are nice. Ours were nylon and screening with the light weight pop up tent poles in it. Of course if yours isn't used to and/or not crate trained, then he could just tear through it pretty quickly, although they may be made a bit heavier now-a-days. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Twist-N-Go-Kennel/19499601
