Could also maybe just use a sewn loop on one end of the strap, or tie a water knot to form a loop, no hardware needed to hold your tree strap together at the tree this way. HYOH!

Currently I am using a soft-shackle on one tree strap and a Ti Dutch Clip on the other. Soft shackle has been on quite a while and like ewhammock said above ....light and strong.

Any "special" reason you're using a soft shackle on one tree strap and a Ti Dutch Clip on the other?

Comparisons sake. Just for fun and to see if I have a preference or to see which lasts the longest.

I just received a pair of the Camp Nano 23 biners from Stu at WhoopieSlings.com yesterday. I haven't hung w/ them yet, but they appear to be awesome biners.

I know you said you didn't want to wait for shipping, but he's always shipped super fast to me. I ordered the biners Sat. morning, got an email less than 30 min. later saying they were going on the mail that day, and i received them yesterday (Mon.)!!! First class mail at that! Also, his price on those biners are only $5.50 and shipping was very reasonable as well.

Just stay away from the hardware on the tree. There's no need for it. If you don't want to do knots, you could just sew a good loop on one end of the strap, and then run the other end through the loop after putting it around the tree and there you go.

I have a thing for biners, I like their different shapes, colors and sizes....but even with my little quirks in what I like, I don't use them on the tree straps for my hammock.

....opps, I do for my son's, but his is a complete different set-up.

    +1, what DivaB says!

Yyup! at only 23g weight, those "Camp U.S.A. Nano 23 carabiners" are great.
I also enjoy using the "Metolius FS Mini Wiregate Carabiner", 25g
Course, both are climbing rated - stronger than needed. Gives me security
Still, i don't use them to attach the tree straps around the tree...instead i use them in place of a toggle- just my quirk me thinks...

I recently moved to using soft shackles instead of a biner and I like that the soft shackle can bend around the tree when pulled tight, while a carabiner cannot.

Otherwise I use the CAMP nanos and they are great, just be careful of the orientation of the biner, don't want to have the wiregate get opened or pushed laterally by the tree or suspension.
