    Kelty 12x12 CRL

I recently got in my Noahs tarp and I want to add a CRL. How long should it be?
P.s I'm using a hex(?) configuration normally. Is there anyway to quickly changing to diamond configuration?

I have the same tarp. The ridge line length depends on the trees. I tie mine off as high as I can reach and then hang the hammock before putting on the tarp.

I have figure 9s on the ridge line attached with a prusick, (can't spell) I use those to te.sion the tarp. To go to diamond just pull the stakes and release the 9s and shift the corners to the crl and reattach everything.

I have 30' continuous ridgelines on both of my tarps.

Quickly? Not really due to the fact that when you're hanging it in hex mode your ridgeline is 12'. When you change it to the diamond, you need approximately 17' (12' x the square root of 2 which is 1.414). Can it be done? Sure. But you need to a long span to work with. Quick is both a relative and personal term much like the word "gourmet".

    Hi there! I have a Kelty Noah's 12 and I use a 30' ridgeline made out of zing-it.

I also have another 12' tarp with a 35' foot ridgeline, but honestly that is too long really.

I have the Kelty Noah 12 as well. My tarp ridgeline is a little over 20ft. I say a little over because I measured 20 then pulled a little more before cutting. I carry a couple of short 8ft sections for tie-out and general "that needs to be off the ground" use. If needed, I can lash a couple of them to the ridgeline to extend it. But much over 30ft between the trees and I'm getting close to length of my hammock+whoopie's depending upon how much tree strap is in use.

As for diamond vs hex. I have a pair of figure9's attached to prussik's, one on each end of the ridgeline. I have two short pieces, maybe a foot or so long that I can loop through the tarp loop. If I decide to change the tarp config, I just move the 2 short "tails" to the appropriate loops on the Noah so they'll line-up with the ridgeline, rotate it, then tie-off to the figure9's and tension. The lack of anything metalic/plastic directly attached to the tarp makes it nice for packing, I'm not worried about rips or punctures. I roll the ridgeline up and stuff it in a pocket for quick access.

And FWIW, the tarp goes in a pouch which is on the outside/underneath of my pack. That way if it's wet I don't worry about the contents of my pack. And it can be the first/last thing I unpack/pack.

I use a 12x12 Guide Gear for a group shelter, configured for a diamond pitch. I allow 12' on each end, in addition to that portion under the hammock,~16', for a total of 40'. One end has a loop w/mini biner, the other a nine on a Prusic. The tarp is centered on the rl with Prusics. Goes up fast and clean.
