A few updates this morning. Made longer whoopies for all four corners to allow better adjustment.

Sitting mode (Seat whoopies at 44", Back whoopies at 35"):

Recliner mode (Seat whoops at 44", Back whoops at 49"):

Hanging between the trees. Distance between trees only limited by how short or long your whoopies allow and how high you can reach (for distant trees).
    This span is approximately 15':

Dynamic testing of the suspension. Makes for a fun swing:

Next step: clone and refine the seat in light weight material. Will likely make the back portion of the chair longer to provide better head support while reclining. Any other thoughts?

    A brief update:
Completed prototype clone #1 out of a double layer of 1.9oz/yd2 ripstop with 1" polyester strap around edges. Weight with suspension is down to 10oz. Pizzpoor sewing on this one, no close up photos allowed. Waiting for some more fabric from DIY GS. May try to use darts to contour the seat on proto clone #2 rather than dealing with the inverted U shaped seat.

    Completed prototype:

Unsuspecting tester: (nah--just kidding, I tried my weight first)

    Lovin it BER!
That is def. going on my list of to-dos. Lightweight, easily deployed, and that recliner mode....oooooh man. I'm napping already.

Making use your trekking poles as spreaders?

    Good work!

Oh yeah, it needs a footrest!!

Glad you like it Gargoyle. No spreader bars required. I opted not to go with the footrest. The original was comfortable for about 5 minutes and then I felt like my knees were getting hyperextended.

Still totally loving this!! Is that amsteel going between the trees that the swing is hanging off of? ...and then is the swing itself on prusiks so you can adjust how much is spread out or is that fixed point?

Looking at my chair swing, I wouldn't think the chair pattern would be too difficult to come up with.

Very comfy looking chair/recliner there BER!
Are you using tree straps? The force on the trees would be the same as a hammock setup.

The chair is hanging from 2mm whoopies at the four corners. There is a 2mm fixed length dogbone for the "ridgeline", two Dutch Biners and two dynaglide whoopies going from the Dutch clips to the tree straps. Each biner has four attachments ( whoopie to tree, dogbone, and the two corner whoopies for that side). The pattern was made by tracing the original chair folded in half to get the back and arms. Then fudged an elongated semicircle for the seat. May try darts instead of the semicircle in the next proto. Received my fabric from DIY GS to make the next version, but have to get caught up with my paying job first.

BER if you get an ugly, unwanted 10 ounce rejected proto type, I'll take it/buy it from ya! That would cut the weight in half for me. I currently use a Crazy Creek chair at 20 ozs. But man a 10 ouncer and being off the ground when sitting under my tarp, priceless!
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Ok, so the X is the trees, dashes are dynaglide whoopies and the line is a 2mm dogbone, 0 is the biners (I'll have to look up dogbone)

    X-------0___________0----------x

I understand the chair corners are all four 2mm whoopie (dynaglide?) and they are then attached meeting at the top with a biner on each side (the solid line above is part of the chair set up...stays with the chair?)) and you then attach those points to the dashes above.

I think I get this Do you get me Wish I knew how to do more of the computer drawling stuff, but oh well.
