New suspension

Gonna be testing this new setup I put together hopefully this weekend.

I had the fixed eye on a whoopie sling directly on the hammock, then to the tree strap via marlin spike.

I switched to dogbone to carabiner to whoopie sling to tree strap via marlin spike.

What I want to know: Is it too convoluted? Too many connections = too many points of weakness and/or potential failure, or should I not worry about it? The idea is that I can take my suspension off and stow it away separate from the hammock in case it's wet or sappy or dirty (or anything else).

You could just make the fixed eye to a sewn loop on the tree strap and make a Dutch hook on the adjustable end and put a chain link fixed loop on the end of the hammock, but if your way works for you and you don't hit the ground, then job well done

Dutch Hooks are an "eventually" thing.

My big concern is points of failure, though. The more moving parts, the more likely it is to break sorta thing.

I have a dogbone looped through my channel ends, then I put two SMC descender rings on the end of that. If the trees are close, I can use the straps alone through the rings. If I have more distance between trees, I have whoopie slings that can be looped onto one of those rings very easily by running the adjustable end through the fixed end, then it is hooked to the tree straps by a marlin spike hitch. You could use one ring on each end if you go with whoopies exclusively in the same way. The rings are extremely strong, light, and smaller than many carabiners. Less chance of failure too since there is no gate to deal with. Might be an option to explore. The rings aren't very expensive. REI has them for $3.10 each. If you have good 'biners already, I'm not much help since it is pretty much the same setup you are describing. I do like the flexibility of having the two rings for straps for close trees. Sometimes whoopies can be tough to work with in a tighter hang situation.
