    Another noob?

OK I am planning a 20 mile weekend hike this weekend on the AT. Debating wheather to use my tent or try out my new hammock set up. It is supose to be in the upper 30's. I have a new HH explorer with a 40 degree Wildermezs UQ and a 30 degree snugpak sleeping bag. I also have the HH pad reflective pad. Is this going to be enough? Should I stick to the tent since it is what. I know?

If the extra weight isn't too much, take both. Better yet, leave the t**t at home.

Is the tree in your avatar the oak at Bly Gap?

You gotta jump in sometime but hammock camping takes some time to see what works for you. Have you actually slept overnight with your set up?

Welcome aboard from Florida. Bubba raises a good point, if you haven't experimented with your hammock setup it could be a disaster.

Yes it is the tree at Bly Gap. I really have only set this up in the backyard. During the summer I had used my eno a few times but the HH is new. Maybe should wait til I have a chance to try it out at home first.

Straight up commit to an early bedtime (to allow for tweaking) at home before heading out. My .02
