I like how easy it looks to set them up.

I managed to put together a decent tarp out of some heavier silnylon, but I could see myself messing the whole thing up by sewing on some tie outs. Not only does this offer me the tie outs that I would like, but I can also remove and reposition them as needed.

    Sweet!!!

I invented the tarp pull out

...not really, but as far as I know, I was the first HF person to use them over a hammock & I quietly promoted their use since the beginning of HF.

Actually, the reason I was using them was because I had ordered a "Ray Way" tarp Tent just before discovering the hammock for backpacking.

It came with instructions to sew in tarp pull outs (thanks Ray). With the help of a seamstress friend I put together the "Tent Tarp" but had not yet added the netting.

When I discovered the hammock I just used the new tarp I had & found that the pull outs were a great addition.
They add roominess & keep the tarp off you when the wind blows

    Sorry for the shameless plug
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Anyone tried using Dutch Tarp Pullouts to convert a hammock into a "chair"?

saw a thread (somewhere on HF) where taking one long edge of a hammock up over it's ridgeline; then fastening the fabric edge around the ridgeline - about 18" from each end, ... seems this forces the hammock to provide a more upright place to lean your back on while sitting.

Just wondered if these pullouts may work for this?
