Howdy guys,
Just started backpacking this summer and ironically enough I slept in a hammock for my first ever trip. I had camped previously before on the ground, but after just two nights in a hammock I made using an old bed sheet and paracord I was hooked on sleeping in a hammock. Later that summer I spent a week in that very same hammock and was comfy as can be. I used a $0.99 tarp from a home improvement center as shelter those two times. I soon realized though that my super cheap set up was not ideal, so I went ahead and bought some ripstop nylon out of the bargain-bin at Walmart ($1.50/yard) and sewed up my own DIY hammock. And that is about all I have been able to improve thus far because I am a poor college student, ha ha. I will probably have to return to the ground for fall backpacking unless I can find some way to turn $125-$150 into a decent fall set-up to keep me warm, but I digress.
Hopefully in joining this forum I will be able to learn from all the seasoned hangers here and in turn become seasoned myself. Would like to give a shout out to Shug for mentioning this site in his YouTube videos, Whoooo buddy!
