Eye Bolt Installation for indoor hangin

OK...so I have scoured youtube and googled this question...to find that magnets are probably my best bet. I've made quite a few holes in my walls now, trying those methods...in order to install some heavy duty eyebolts to hang my hammock at home.
Any carpenters or contractors out there that can help me stop drilling dumba#! holes in my walls and hurry up with a way to hang my hammock indoors? I have read about the 16 inch standard between studs, and I am still coming up w/o a stud to put my eye bolts into.
Boo hoo! I need some advice!

Knock on the wall. A stud sounds different, less hollow. For something critical, like hanging a hammock, I use a tiny, tiny wire nail to "fish" for the edges of the stud. The holes are all but unnoticeable.

What you're talking about, btw, is an eye screw, not a bolt.

You can get a stud finder pretty cheap from Lowes or prolly even cheaper at Harbor Freight. Then when you've found the stud with that take a pin or very small nail and find the edges of the stud so that you may more accurately find the center of the stud.
    Good luck,

I'd knock on a neighbors door to borrow a stud finder. You'll have it back to them within an hour. It should take much time to find a stud with one of those.

U should go to lowes and buy a cheap stud finder. locate 3 studs and mount another 2x4 with your eye hook installed, across the 3 studs u located to evenly distribute your weight across the 3 studs. Youe need to spend just a little bit of money and buy the right stuff, cause u dont want to rip a stud out. When u get to lowes tell one of the guys in the hardware section what u are doing and he can get u the right bolts and washers. Id say less than 20 buck and thats with the stud finder. Hope this helps.

Sounds solid. You're right, I don't want to rip out a stud in the wall. I may just return the eye screws to Ace!
Also, I'd like some photos if you have this set up!

SorryMichelle,no photos.I agree about not using eye screws. For a screw, the hole must be drilled the size of the screw minus the threads.Unless you know the quality of your studs your risking a potential failure, sooner or later. You might also consider a 2x6[mounted as suggested],considering the quality of todays woods.Your going to have countersink[make a pocket]a larger hole on the side against the wall to contain the washer and nut-so it will lie flush against the wall.I would use no less than 3 1/2inch. wood screws ,3 to a stud.Hope this makes sense,it's more confusing to describe than to do.Since your back is on the line,I would suggest getting help from a local carpenter/handyman.

Door frames have studs and are easy to find. Use a pilot hole and 3/8 eye bolt. It's about the thickness of a AAA battery. If your house as metal stubs DON'T hang from them. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350629578.252059.jpg
