    hammock sock

I have been thinking abut the Molly Mac hammock sock. anybody tried one? It makes sense if it works, you would have your UQP , windblock (no raincoats) and should warm things up. Condensation is the question. Also 2QZQ is making a VBL the size of my Hammock Gear 3/4 UQ that will sandwhich between the quilt and the hammock like a tent foot print. Let you know about this on. finally got 20 degree weather.

Thanks for thinking of us! You should get quite a few responses... there are lots of them out there!

Two things make certain that condensation is out of the question:

    1) They are made with breathable 1.1 ripstop nylon... no coating at all.

    2) The SEEP (Side Entry/Exit Portal) is a full length opening, so it is easy to ventilate and never closed up tight.

My husband and I each have a digital camo one and we love them. They definitely add some warmth, and keep everything nice and clean. They do create a wind block, and it also keeps the sun out of your eyes in the morning so you can sleep in.
    I highly recommend them.
    Thanks Mac...

Do you find that there's less wind protection from the uncoated versus the coated? Or is it calendaring that gives more wind protection? And is your material calendared?

It's not wind protection that is the most important attribute, but vapor permeability. I don't use coatings of any kind in a sock. The highest vapor permeability is what's needed.

Many folks cannot use waterproof but breathable fabrics for a sock without having condensation problems.

I don't know what is the real effect of calendaring. I only make socks from 1.1 ripstop breathable nylon, or untreated 4 oz canvas (for extreme cold).
