    Painters tarp back-ups

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet.
I keep a one of those cheap disposable big box store painters tarps in my pack. It weighs just a few ounces and takes up about as much room as a smushed hot dog roll. I've stuck it to a leaky tarp with neodymium magnets, made atarp extention, used it as an extended porch or vestibule, poncho, ground cloth on wet ground, sit pad on wet surfaces. The only problem is they are thin and not very durable, but very handy to have one on hand!!! Wouldn't go out without one!!!

I have carried a cheap rain poncho, but never a drop cloth. Sounds more versatile.

A very light and somewhat more durable option are polycryo window covering kits. This stuff is .75mil thickness, and there are other kits for patio doors where the material is 1.5mil thick.

It's fairly durable but once it gets a rip, especially the at the edge, it can 'run' very quickly. However, easily fixed with any kind of tape.

I have a 3' x 6' piece of the .75mil stuff that I've used for a few years as a ground sheet for pack and other gear, draped over and tucked if rain is blowing under the tarp.

    Small and weighs 21 grams.

Plus 1 on this, have the same thing set aside in my gear, I use it primarily as a ground sheet when tenting, but could easily see using one to augment a tarp or use on its own (or a larger one made for patio doors) for a bit of cover in a separate cooking area.

I started eating broccoli so I could get those rubber bands. Asparagus is even better because it usually has two rubber bands.
