    Talking Star-blindness

    Three times hammock camping
    Two hour drive
One person camping alone Friday night (me)

Spent the better part of the evening figuring out constellations with Google Sky drinking beer and keeping a pine cone fire going. Fell asleep looking at the stars in my hammock. Woke up in the middle of the night because my face is cold and could barely open my eyes because the stars were so bright. I was really drowsy but I smiled and was content. My eyes were crossed and I tried to make sense of what I was seeing but Cassiopeia had shifted in the sky and was no longer overhead. I hope I never have to use a tarp, open sky is one of the best parts!

Also discovered another benefit of camping alone...in a hammock...drunk... the hand-plant bathroom break x2. Snug as a bug.

Well, it was a trip, after all. Sounds like you had a good time out there.

    Nice trip report!

I love the nights without a tarp. Last time i did that and was staring up at the stars, i fell asleep only to be awoken by rain. New England fall nights change fast.

So long as you didn't handplant directly over you shoes.

Sounds like a great trip. Here in the South I only go without a tarp when temps are below freezing, otherwise the chance of a stray shower or heavy dew fall are just too great.

OMG its not a trip report!

Dang, yea that would be a bad start to any day. I've been laying my cheap tarp on the ground under my hammock so its there if I need it but will likely already be wet

Thanks guys, my intentions for this thread was to discuss star burn and star blindness and just enjoying sleeping under the stars in comfort. Just a general stoke thread... waking up and wondering who turned the light on? What a noob

haha i posted that pic to at least make the thread a little more interesting, but it was really great waking up and being blasted by star light. There are times when all of us are out in nature and we have moments where we get that good feeling, appreciation and wonderment.

Shoes get tied together and hung over the whoopie! But seriously, one thing I didnt expect from hammock camping is the ability to "turn and go" when nature calls (and its appropriate).

Oh, that just pushes the gender envelope right there . I think until we women can find a way to go from the hammock, that you all shouldn't be allowed to discuss it, let alone rub it in.

At least we've come far enough now that you all aren't the only ones standing up behind a tree, so don't let it totally surprise you

DivaB,,several types funnels are made for the women kayakers dressed in dry suits that don't want to disrobe out of all their gear,,and they work very perfect..just do a search for various ones that have been time tested.

I'm already amongst the many women that are standing I make my own F.U.Ds, but there is no way of figuring out how go while still laying in a hammock....unless you know something that I don't.
