    An alternative to prusik knots

is to use micro-biners the same way climbers and arborists use full-sized carabiners: Not just for quck-click unions, but as friction devices on lines.

If you want to get those suspension lines out of the way of hammock egress:

Thread the ridge-line through the mini-biner with one wrap. The line under tension will keep the biner from slipping. Once that slippage is stopped, for the UQ suspension lines can be longer, so you can accommodate moving them out of the way, out toward the hammock ends, even as they remain attached nearer to the center of the (heavy) UQ.

I picked up a older 20 degree Cabelas down bag for $50 on craigslist. I cut it down to approximately 44 x 64 (I did not want a full length UQ). I have added full length channels on all sides to be able to put shock cord through. I like the idea of putting the lines over the ridgeline. If the full length cords do not keep it tight, I will add them. The extra down from the bag should be enough to make a 3 season quilt as well.

I think I am going to copy, I have a high quality, almost antique bag, waiting to be put to work. I am simply going to copy what you have done. I will probably add some breatheable nylon fabric to the bottom as sort of extra protection from the rain.

Is that a Staffie, all snuggled in? They sure know the value of extra warmth. Our old guy figured out that sleeping bags were a great thing. He would wear a jacket, but did not really like it. However, a sleeping back or blanket that was GR8.

    Nice job.
