Need advice on buying a UQ>

I have been looking at buying a New River UQ from my BlackBird. Other than the weight can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't consider one. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

The New River will take up a little more pack space because it will not compress as much as a down quilt. That being said, I really like mine and it will work fine with your Blackbird.

In addition to them being a little more bulky, synthetic quilts also handle moisture better than down so if you are worried about keeping down dry, then synthetic might be better. It's not hard to keep down dry, it just takes a little more vigilance.

If you don't need a FL UQ then consider the 3/4 lenght Jarbridge

Unless you are allergic to down buy a down uq. Most vets on the forum use down and there is a reason. Also don't worry about the moisture thing. For every one person that will tell you not to buy down because of the moisture issue there are 10 of us who use down with no problems. I bought synthetic and regretted the bulk and weight. Good luck with whatever you buy

This is what I use on my BMBH UL. I love my Incubator on my Light Hiker, though.

I personally would never go with a synthetic UQ. Both my UQ's are down, and I love my full length winter incubator!

I think the both synthetic and down options are a fine way to go. You have to make the decision how you are going to use the quilt, how often you are going to use the quilt and in what conditions are you going to use the quilt. For me as an example most of my hammock camping is done out of a canoe. The only times I am carrying the full load is when I am portaging the canoe from lake to lake. Being as I am around water almost all of the time there is also the risk of dumping my gear in the water, down is completely worthless when wet and does not dry very quickly. How often you are going to use it should also be a part of your thought process, twice a year for weekend trips is the added cost really worth it. I do concern my self with weight and size but in my case I felt that when I took all the factors into consideration the price warmth and durability of the synthetics were what were best for me. I currently have the jarbidge and two PLUQs, I really want to try someones new river. The jarbidge works great for me and gives about 90% coverage. Just by $.02..
