Siliconized 30d Cordura search

Anyone know where I can find any SilCordura by the yard? SilCordura? 30d? I've noticed a lot of this material is sold as dry sacks by Sea to Summit.

I'd love to get a sample of a yard or two.

I have a few of the Granite Gear stuff sacks and pack covers. The whitish colored stuff sacks I have have a "powdery and sticky" like texture...of course nothing actually comes off, it just feels that way. Some of the other colors don't seem to have that feeling so much. I think it would be noisy as a tarp, but I haven't seen the White Lightning in real life, but it appears to be a nicely constructed item.

I was kindof hoping for some material that wasn't already made into something else, for y'know, 4-8 dollars per yard or so?

That white lightning would only run you $6 a yard.

I looked. I don't know if it's available to the public. It's made by Dupont, and probably only available through wholesalers in largish amounts.

I actually think it is a little heavier than the typical 1.1 silnylon.

I just remembered that I have some of the Granite Gear Air Grocery bags made out of it. I don't know how strong they actually are, but you can put a gallon of milk, a six pack of beer, and some cantaloupes in there and they don't bust!

I'd hate to destroy a nice tarp for the material. Just wondering if we could loosen up the supply a bit...

I've seen some for sale, but you have to buy a lot at once. They don't cut loose yards of it.

I wonder if the weight of 30 denier Silcordura is close to silnylon weight?

The 1.1 oz. base fabric for silnylon is 30D. Cordura is just kinked nylon yard. Typically, it is not as strong as the natural nylon but has higher abrasion resistance. Any 30D nylon will weigh about the same as any other 30D nylon if the density of the weave (thread count) is the same. Denier is weight in grams of 9000 meters of yarn. So if the yarn weighs the same, the only variables are the thread count and coatings or treatments.

The difference in weight will probably be in the weight of the coating. Cordura may hold more silicone than plain nylon. But that's just a guess.
