Sportsman's Guide Tarps Are Back! (Sorta)

The 12' x 12' white SG tarp is now being listed on the Sportsman's Guide website as being available on Feb. 5 for 24.97 each. Yeah, it's not the camo Neo tarp, but I have one, and I can testify that it's a lot of tarp for the money! Who knows, maybe they'll start carrying the camo tarps again.

Here's an old link to the weight. Assuming the camo weighs the same as the white.

I think my camo 9x9 weighs 1 lb 6 oz. If I remember correctly the 12 x 12 I had weighed a little less than the 1 lb 15 oz figure at that link. I thought the 12 x 12 was just too bulky for backpacking and too big to pitch over a hammock.

Interesting you could make that claim. I've used it with no problem. The 12 X 12 is more of a base camp than backpacking tarp, but it certainly covers well and is a welcome item when facing lots of rain.
The harder I work, the luckier I get.

Hey, what works for some doesn't work for others. HYOH. I have used this tarp over a side-by-side hang for my wife and me. Very effective. You absolutely cannot beat the price, and it's a great basis for doing simple alterations to get to the size that you want.

I can see the 12 X 12 being "too big" if you hang it diamond. I have a couple tarps with a 12' ridgeline and I find them ample but certainly not too big. However I don't pitch them on the diagonal.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Dont forget you can "cat cut" that monster 12x12 tarp.
I did that with my 9x9 and it worked well. Have never used it though cause I have my Black Cat and JRB tarp.

Those 12 x 12 are a lot of tarp for the money. Great for group gathering spots.

I'm going to use my 9 x9 camo one next summer while canoeing. It's a bomber, easy to stake out on gravel bars, and lets the air flow.

Don't forget that Claytor has some Diamond camo tarps that aren't too much more than than Sportman's Guide ones.

I used a Kelty 12x 12 last night for a side-by-side hang with my son. Used the original 12 foot ridgeline and brought the sides almost to the ground with the side tie-outs making a little more room at the hammock level. This was a very good size in the 20* windy weather. My daughter solo hangs under it and uses the ends like beaks to close the tarp up for changing clothes.

At the price for the Sportsman's Guide 12 x 12, I think I may try cutting one down to a catcut hex. That would really keep you dry in a storm.
