    Mailing Lists

    Hi guys!

I was wondering if there was a way to have a mailing list process established so I can broadcast Hang Planning start-ups more efficiently. Right now I can do 10 at a time manually, but I don't want to send unsolicited emails based on a person's one-time post on a thread. It'd be nice if there was a way to have people opt-in/subscribe to a list.

Is this available? Could it be?

HF's a truely fantastic web-resource. Keep up the great work!

Why not just do the planning in the planning thread, like the others?

I just noticed that on the latest EGL planning thread, some people were mentioning they appreciated being told about an upcoming hang/event.

If there's not much traffic on the thread, or the person doesn't frequent HF and/or check the trip planning section, they might not find out about events until too late.

I have my PM's and thread subsriptions forwarded to my preferred email address, and it's great for getting HF updates on things I'm interested as soon as they're sent. A distribution list would just be an easy way to advise people that something's happening, and get them to check out the thread. They'd opt in and out. No spamming allowed!!

    Just a thought.

I see what you mean...for folks who may not be aware yet that a planning thread even exists. I don't think vBulletin supports distro lists like that but let me see if the other mods know of any similar capabilities.

Any word on the feasibility of developing some for of mailing list for Hammock Forums?

A mailing list capability would be good. I let some of my fellow hangers know about a group hang since they might not have seen the planning thread. If there was a notification list that people can put their name on, then it would be easier to spread the word.

Sticky in the Hangouts Campouts and Trip Planning

    Hey Guys

Our very own Kasuko posted a great thread on how to stay current with the threads in the Trip Planning area. It even got a Sticky Status.

Perhaps following any of the several ideas mentioned in the thread will help people stay up to date with the hangs in their area. It would act as an opt in list as the user would have to take action to use one of the methods.

    Hey Chard,

We talked about it but haven't yet come up with a good method that wouldn't be open to spam abuse.

One way to sort of do that is to 'friend' everyone you want to send hangout invites to. On the 'quick links' 'open contacts popup' page, there is an option to PM everyone on your list.

Will using this method run into the 10 user maximum limit when sending a PM?

Yeah, I think so, but you can simply select 10 at a time from the list by using the checkboxes.

It's not perfect, but it's a workaround for now. I think there's probably a better way to go about this, but I'm still working on it.
