Just joined thought I should say hi

    Hi to you all,
I just joined today. Already learning tons.

I tried hammock camping this summer. Myself and few gal pals were planning a motorcycle trip/camp.
I ride a naked roadster (Triumph Street Triple R) no storage. Long story short with a couple accessory bags I could do the trip. No way I was going to be able to pack a tent on my bike. What's a girl to do??
A HAMMOCK? What the heck? Did some research settled on the Hennessey Expedition Asym with the larger Hex fly, which I pitch over a separate ridge line. Use the straps with caribeners and repel rings (don't care about weight and love how fast set up is).
IT WAS AWESOME! I am hooked! I am hammock camping like champion next spring/summer/fall. A friend took a pic of me in my hammock, bike in front...think it might become a tatoo! Any way HEY! MMMWWAAAAH! xo L'il Cal

    Welcome to the trees.

The HH was the gateway drug for me into this madness too.

The simplified suspension of webbing with biner on one end and ring buckles on the other is a great way to hang. I have that on set ups for my wife and son and they love it. The Hennessey Hex is also an excellent value. Plenty of tarp for the money if weight is not an issue.

It sounds like you're off to a great start.

    Blackbird Footbox

It's wild! Midsummer I had no idea about any of this. I am sitting here giggling like a little school girl as I type "asym" and caribeners, repel rings, ridgeline...I am online trying to decide if I will purchase a Trangia alcohol stove or DIY one out of pop cans. This is madness! OH!

Anyway to the title of this reply. I am wondering if you or others think the footbox on the Blackbird makes a big difference regarding finding the sweet spot as compared to the HH ASYM, which did allow me to sleep on the diagonal easily. I am 5' 10" 135lbs woman I am thinking no...but if I gonna do this - this gal wants to do it right

The best answer is to send you to a group hang in your area where you can see and try lots of different types of gear.

Some love the foot box of the WBBB, others get a similar result with a mod on their gathered end hammock. Both my wife and son use the Blackbird exclusively and love it. I like mine a lot too but find myself switching back and forth between an older HH I have with zipper mods and a simple top entry no net hammock. Bottom line, each has it's place and we all have different preferences.

As for stoves, don't even open that Pandora's box or you may fall in

I use DIY alcohol stoves, Cottage Industry made stoves, wood burners, sometimes canisters...

Welcome to HF - it makes you do crazy things, like sleep in the garage instead of your perfectly good bed.
