At camp, before I take it down to pack up, I wipe it down with a microfibre towel. I've seen someone else use a sponge. Once I'm home, I hang it out to dry further before storing away.

I usually take a credit card or Driver's License and squeegie my tarp.
Then I will wipe it with a micro fiber (or shamwow type) cloth.
Keeps the weight down.
Then put it in mesh skins to let the rest try to dry.
When I get home, I definitely hang it out. <------the tarp

I usually wipe it down if there is a lot of water still on it however, on a recent day hike I did not have a camp towel so I gave it a really good shake. It worked very well.

I usually give mine a few smacks while it's still rigged up. Starting at the ridgeline and moving down to the edge. Works pretty well. Then once home I hang in the sunroom and clean it with a damp rag. Then let it air dry a couple days before packing away for storage.

I just shake mine and attach it to the outside of my pack. If it's not raining in the morning, I will throw it over some shrubbery after shaking, while I pack my other stuff. Usually, it's almost dry by the time I get back to it.

I try to wipe mine down with a microfiber towel. Last year on the Colorado hang I wiped the top side. I got in a hurry and did not wipe the bottom. Put it in the skins and in the bag in the pocket of the pack. Pocket was wet on the way out on the last day. I took it out of the pack and put it in the back of the pickup. When we got home after an eight hour drive there was a wet spot on the truck bed. I weighed the tarp before hanging it to dry. After dry I took the second weight. It lost more than a pound of water. That did not count what was lost in the pack and truck bed.
From that experience, I try to take the time to get it as dry as I can.
