Does Glacier NP count as the Midwest?...

Planning a trip to backpack Glacier this summer. Pretty sure the campsites I'm looking at all have trees to hang from. Has anyone done that there? Is it even allowed?

Actually, Montana is in the West subregion.

BTW.. Not sure about the regs in the park, but where I backpacked plenty of trees. I was in a tent at the time.

Plus, I'd say it is in western Montana, dang near Idaho and even closer to Canada. But also, I remember plenty of trees, though who knows what the rules are. Just don't be a bear burrito! Just ribbin Ya, it will be great! But if you go in the next several months, you might should take a fairly thick set of quilts. I think the all time record low in GNP is minus 70F!

Also planning a trip to Glacier National Park and looking for information, hang-friendliness, etc. Heck! I might even search through the Trip-Reports forum this weekend

If your going to Glacier,,go here and chat,,you will learn everything you ever wanted to know..

If your planning a hike or trip in Glacier,,learn everything quick, and put in your requests for various loops and hikes asap..as they are booked quickly and even a year in advance sometimes. You CAN walkup however to the various Ranger Stations and sometimes work some hikes out on the first come first serve as they do reserve some areas and hiking trails for walk up,,got to get to Ranger Station to get in line at 5 or 6am at the latest that books hikes with computer service on the hiking schedules. In scheduling hikes thru the mail,,they open the mail on a certain day,,say in April,,in the order the mail is recieved for booking hikes,,so plan and get your requests in NOW!You can learn all of that in that chat forum I gave you,,those people will help you out with any questions and requests,,as they are all Glacier hikers that go every year.

Depending you where you hike,,if your above the tree lines,,you will have to drop below to hang..no stealth camping allowed,,to many Rangers,,so follow the rules and camp in designated campsites. Rangers run the trails constantly and daily. You have to do Glacier at least once in your life time, and you will not be able to see everything even in a 2 week stay. Go west young man,,,go west and enjoy God's Country!

Spend the next week chatting with those folks if you can,,and read the postings on that chat forum,,and learn,,,and get your requests in asap. Glacier is one of those special places and depending on the area you visit,,that park is a different eco system depending which part of it where you visit. Total awesomeness no matter where you visit in Glacier. I might even go back this summer sometime myself.
