Tarp is too heavy for Zing-It?

New to hammock hanging here and having some issues with the the tarp I have...Transform Tarp from Nemo. 12 x 12 and weighs 2lb 10oz. I attach the Zing-It making a "v" using prussiks and a micro biner on one end and with a figure 9 on the other (CRL). The tarp starts out nicely strung but as I'm working under it (practicing suspensions and just hanging), it starts to pull that cord down. Wondering if instead of the "v", I should wrap around and lock it in the opposite direction, keeping it close to the trees.
On a side note....when it's working, there's lots of room for the RidgeRunner!

Sounds like your prusiks are slipping. You can add an extra wrap (four instead of three). Some people like Klemheist knots.

I used to use a setup similar to yours before switching to Figure 9s and knotbones. Now I use Dutch hooks and Tarp Flyze and they never slip.

Yeah, I doubt its the line "not being strong enough". Do as SS suggested.
Zing it has a nice slippery coating, and occassionally needs a break-in period to hold prussiks well.

You can set the tarp tight and mark the ridgeline with a black magic marker. Once you notice slippage, check your mark and see if that is the culprit. You can use some masking tape too.

I just found a new item from Nite-Ize: cam lock biner. Half biner, half ratchet lock like on a sailboat. Tried one out today & it works pretty well.

I already do 4 loops on the prusiks, 5 on a loop I made too big , but I'll do more experimenting tomorrow.
I saw those cam biners...do you think the zing-it is too narrow for it?
    Thanks for the input.

Are you talking about this thingie (above link didn't work)?

    http://www.niteize.com/product/CamJam.asp

If you're using 1.75 Zing-It, then it's too narrow in diameter. The specs says it is good for rope 2mm to 5 mm.

This also makes me wonder if you are using a Figure 9 designed for a rope larger in diameter than they're rated for. Might want to check that out. I still think it's your prusiks, though. Once the slickness wears off, they should hold better.

This is my knot of choice for slippery stuff like Amsteel and Lash/Zing It. I find it holds better than a prusik.

For the Klemheist knot, which side of the knot is better for load bearing? ie: wraps toward the tarp or loop toward the tarp? Or does it matter?
I also just read that the 2 lines should not be the same diameter. Prusiks and/or Klemheists need to be smaller cord. Yikes Can't get much smaller!

That's not necessarily true. Many of us are using 1.75 mm prusiks on 1.75 mm Zing-it. As mentioned in this thread, more wraps on the prusiks will make it work. You probably have new line that is really slick. As the coating wears off, the prusiks will start to hold. Slide those prusiks back and forth to hasten the process.

I tend to think the coating wears off quicker when the line is wet. All I know is that every one of my Zing-It tarp suspensions got wet immediately and I never saw the issue you're experiencing. The only thing I did after initial slippage was increase the number of wraps.

One more thing. Your tarp is not too heavy for 1.75 mm Zing-It, which has a breaking strength of 480 lbs.
