    New guy from Kansas...

I'm not a hanger yet. Every time I get to go to the Rockies, my love for the mountains and my urge to get back to nature grows. At nearly 40, I've put it off for too long. Time to get outside and be an adventurer.

I've always enjoyed camping and hiking, it seems like hammock camping might be the thing for me. Ready to find out.

Welcome to HF and best wishes for a great kick off. grannypat mentioned an overload of information. Be not deceived, she knows of what she speaks. Kind of like looking at a fan deck to pick out a new paint color, you wind up confused very often. My suggestion is to get a feel for what a lot of folks are using, zero in on what can be learned about that gear, see if you can pick up a gently used set up and try it out. For what it is worth, a lot of hammocks can be found on Amazon, etc., but a lot of these are very marginal in their usability, short, narrow and so on. Cottage industry gear makers are a very safe way to go, and these folks are on here too.

Hammock camping is the way to go for those of us who have an abundance of life experience! Hope it works for you!

    Welcome to HF.
You have a chance to meet some on the folks and see a little gear at KC hang just east of Topeka.
