I am far from experienced, but My son and I are sleeping in the yard tonight and it is going to be low 30's.I have a underquilt but for me but for him I put 2 cc pads inside a wallmart fleece bag and slid it in the WBBB inner layer. Now this is not what you would want on a backpack trip but we will see how it does.He has a 20degree bag on top.Nothing really beats quilts and Once you figure them out they are so much easier to deal with but come at a price as we all know. If it does not work he has the option of going inside if he gets cold.

I took a wally world foam pad and my 20* sleeping bag down to 35* last MarchI also wore thermals and a knit cap. I laid my jacket over my head and across the sleeping bag. But then I'm a warm sleeper and generate a lot of body heat. If you use the reflectix lay it on top of the foam not under, the foam is already insulating you. You want the reflectix to "reflect" your body heat back up.

    Warbonnet and pads

My son spent a warm night in the WB and the double cc pads and fleece worked for him.I think the smaller you are the pad option it easier to deal with and coverage is not as critical. He did have them shift a little but slept fine inside the 20 degree marmot bag .
I was toasty with my HG 20 degree quilts. One thing I will say, is I was not overly warm so I wonder what it will be like in 20 degree temps.I think I will be wearing some warm clothes.

I never have my pads shift at all. Putting the ccf inside a fleece probably didnt help with the shifting issue. Then again my hammock uses pads apparently better than the WB (from what I have heard).

    Segmented Pad Extender

I am taking the boys out for the weekend after Thankgiving for a couple of days. I am in Florida, but the temp can drop into the low 50s and back near the swamp it can feel a lot colder at night. I can't see popping for an underquilt and want to try an SPE. I have purchased some supplex and mesh for the DIY SPE.

Does anyone know the dimensions between the wings top to bottom to allow for the bend as you lay in the hammock? 20" top pad ... (space ???? )... bottom 20" pad if that makes any sense.

Shug, Thanks for the reference. 36" height is a little shorter that I was thinking. I might go 42". 20" pad, 6" space, 20" pad. This will give me a little wiggle room to adjust the overall length with a simple tuck in the middle to reduce the overall length. We also have 20" wide thermarest pads and I was thinking about making the wings 20" x 10" and rounding off the tops and bottoms with a 5" radius to fit the hammock a little better.
