The round things you are asking about are not made to support any weight.

Atlas straps might work for you, Diesel.

Rope through a tube looks unstable to me, like a shaft in an axle housing, and can't see how it distributes much load.

Thanks Mike, I was trying to think of a way to do something like the atlas straps, Just needed to see it to figure it out. Thanks!

Why do you think its unstable? I think its more or at least as stable because it allows the cord to tighten up and not snag on any thing. eliminates any sawing action. One thing I have thought about is doing is to put a 1/2" DIY atlas strap in 1" tube webbing to get the same effect. Only down side to the straps is now i need a total of four Mini Carabiner rather than two but all in all not a back breaker lol

The 1:45 mark of this video by Grizz is one of my favorite suspension systems.

Check all of his videos on hammock suspension for a pretty exhaustive list of options.

That is awesome. Like a cheaper and easier version of the MSR rings. Now Im between a custom atlas strap and that.... maybe a combo of the two.

    Thanks for the link

Does any one know if a 1/2" flat nylon strap will fit inside a 3/4" tubular nylon strap?

Your part seems better suited to a tarp line tensioner like the MSR cam ring, I use them on my tarps works great. Your hardware seems like something I may want to make for myself sometime, more compact than the cam ring.

As they say, hang your own hang.

I love the elegance and simplicity of being able to tie a few knots or hitches and still maintain adjustability.

Granted this method is not as simple as say webbing and buckles or as simple as whoopie slings, but there's something rewarding about using a method that isn't the "norm".

Like using a wood fire compared to alcohol or canister stoves. Like starting a fire with birchbark or a feather stick compared to a piece of packaged fire starter or Vaseline-soaked cotton ball.

Sometimes it's the cool factor of feeling accomplished by taking the "road less travelled".

Also, the confidence of being able to use your know how to make a situation work if, say your whoopie sling fails.

Granted, I use whoopie slings or straps and buckles on 99.99999% of my outings, but once in a while I'll throw something in like this to keep things interesting.

    To each his own.
