Here was a solution i came up with recently when I showed up to a family campout with limited trees. Of course I was the only hanger...
We had almost the whole area to ourselves because of the time of year. The weather was amazing. Hooray for picnic tables!

Schrochem, that was funny. Since we were the only ones at the site I just stole the table from the one next to ours.
I had 4 deep tie outs holding the table in place. Since I had a lot of sag on the hammock, there was not as much lateral force to deal with. Most of the force was applied downward "ON" the table instead of pulling it toward me. I just made sure my stake was going to hold and that was that! I slept great too. Like always!
I felt like I was putting on some kind of show when I laid in it for the first time because the family were all gathered around with cameras as if they were just waiting for their "youtube" moment. Where's the faith people? LOL.
I think they were almost disappointed when nothing happened.

Way cool set up! I rarely carry that much rope, but it's nice to know it is possible.
I have hung from poorly secured 2x4s with alot of sag as you state, all (most?) of the force / weight was vertical instead of horizontal, & I stayed off the ground.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
The only reason I had that much rope with me was because it was a car camping thing and weight was not an issue. I would never carry all that for a hiking trip.

Adam, Great job!!! I have had to do something like that before and ended up on my, well you know. I like how you staked it down really well, and going to the ground was not an option.

It looks like you are setting up a spring loaded trap with the unwary victim wanting to "test out" the hammock and ending up trapped in the net. I think it would be painful if that picnic table sprung forward and onto the person in the hammock.
