I only weigh 125lbs but i am over 6feet tall. im stumped here. should i go with a full length, half length? should it be thick? i dont really wanna buy an underquilt. i think ill be fine with a pad. hopefully. any ideas?

I'm going to try making an underquilt. If it doesn't work ill try a pad, maybe both. Right nowi have more time than money. If that changes I might buy one.
    Good luck.

I found that a pad does not work very well in a single layer hammock so I modifed a sleeping bag. It works nicely.

well lately ive been using two sleeping bags. i lay one down in the hammock and then get in another one on top of the 1st, but throughout the night the bottom bag keeps moving on me and sliding out of the hammock. would a pad do the same thing?

I was the opposite. I couldnt stand a pad in between layers of mine. Always put it in my quilt or on top of the top layer. I use a couple sectio. from.my zlite pad...or a piece of eva fro
JRB cut to fit my needs.UQ's are the way to go though.

Yep, pads do move around in a single layer hammock. Depending on what pad/bag you have you might be able to insert the bottom of the pad into the footbox of the bag to help the two stay together. Also check out the ENO HotSpot or making a DIY segmented pad extender (SPE). They have wings that wrap up around you to insulate your hips and shoulder and also help keep the pad in place since it is wrapped up around you.

Pads will do you good until you go UQ. Used them for quite a while but something like an SPE or ENO Hot-Spot will control your pads well in a single layer. Plus...you can double pads for cold temps.
Blue closed cell foam pads are quite affordable.

Underquilt is definetly the way to go. Search this site for poncho liner underquilt if you're on a budget, try mnaking one or getting one made from a sleeping bag, check the For Sale section of the Forum, or go to any one of the cottage vendors listed on this site.

I tried pads in my double layer Hennessy at first and found out right away that they move, are too narrow when you do get them underneath you, and don;t really do the job. I had an underquilt made out of an old North Face mummy bag and was toasty warm and comfortable on 30 degree Texas nights. Now I use an Arrohead Equipment Potomac and give the old DIY to my grandkids.
