Hanging in the basement - Noob questions

In my basement I have the typical round metal posts as support beams. My questions are:

Anyone know if there will be an issue hanging from them? They are about 15 feet apart.

Since they are a painted metal post, will the Atlas strap work or should I look at something different to suspend with? While I don't mind falling a bit, smacking concrete is a bit harder than dirt/leaves

i use the atlas straps on mine and it worked fine, it slipped a small bit when i first got in it, so hang it a little high, but after i got into it it was fine!

You could also add a few wraps of duct tape around the pole just below where you want your strap, might provide enough drag to stop the strap from dropping.

Smart idea! i was thinking of wrapping some old rope around about 2 feet of the pole and hanging the straps around the rope?

    How solid are the posts?

I would be inclined to use several wraps of a tree hugger around the post. You are going to need to use up some length anyway. I would also put some padding under the hammock. Rolled up rugs or cardboard boxes come to mind. Anything that slows down that sudden stop.

I would say if you have some open floor joists put a C clamp on the floor joists at each end. Then secure a piece of cordage to that and down to your hammock suspension so it does not slip down the lolly column. Or use the handyman's secret weapon duct tape and put it around the pole under the suspension should hold you up.

Why not just put some large hooks into the joists and hang from the hooks?

I use regular tree straps with a 6" piece of bicycle inner tube slipped on them and simply feed one end through the others eye.

I refuse to hang over concrete without padding so I "store" my old therm-a-rest camp rest pads under the hammock.
