Thanks for the feedback. One last Q. Would you use untreated ripstop or DWR for your actual hammock?

I usually use untreated ripstop for my hammocks, but DWR works fine and offers more wind resistance.
None of the parachutes I've used are completely waterproof. When we made shelters from cut up parachutes, we had to string them REALLY tight or they wouldn't shed the water. For the really waterproof ones we used two layers 4-6" apart. The first layer made the rain into a fine mist, and the second layer stopped the mist. Even so, if we pressed against it from inside it would create a leak.
But I only used two styles of chutes and I don't know about the others. I've read the same thing you guys have, though.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
If you were to make a 2 layer (ZHammock) you could put the DWR as the outer, or bottom, layer.

Slowhike, Ive been to BlackBishops house. He has LOTS of fabric. You dont stand a chance at a WalMart in NC between him and Jeff. Guess we are going to have to order all of our stuff from ED. BD

I too will something make and joy in it's making
Everyday is an adventure! I have a taser now that seems to generate compliance on sight. Double B is doing well. He is going to do the last half of the Foothills Trail with me in April (Im doing the whole thing, he is meeting me halfway to finish it with me). I think that he noses around the group a bit but he doesnt post. BlackBishop and I are looking at doing an overnighter soon so I can shake down my gear before the FT hike. Probably be a midweek hike while he is on spring break though. Once we hammer out the days, Ill let you know. Looking forward to getting back in the woods and learning more from you guys. BD

Sparksko, do you know Kiko. He's a hiker I know that moved up there about a year ago.
Oh about your two layers, I think it would be hot but I like to sleep cold myself. You can always make a weather shield if wind underneath is a problem. Non treated is cheaper then treated.
